HELENA - When MAPS Media Arts Institute founder Peter Rosten stood before the Montana House Business and Labor Committee during public testimony on HB385 Wednesday, two things were clear.
First, MAPS, or Media Arts In Public Schools, is the only known model of the kind of program that would be funded under this bill, which would direct the Department of Commerce to identify accredited media arts programs that would then be eligible to receive a $200,000 grant.
Second, the members of the committee wondered if this could just be the start of a regular appearance at the legislature for Rosten.

With eyes on Legislature, MAPS taps Marquand
by SEPP JANNOTTA - Ravalli Republic
Media entrepreneur Peter Rosten has been to the mountaintop and here's what he's seen:
His educational media project hiring veteran Montana broadcaster Ian Marquand to instruct budding journalists, settling down into an ideal educational space, expanding from two to all seven Ravalli County school districts and, perhaps most importantly, securing a critical shot of funding from the 2009 Montana Legislature.
If all the pieces fall into place, Rosten's Bitterroot-based MAPS Media Institute would appear to have the necessary ingredients to take an already high-profile experiment to the promised land.
